A Brief History of Corpus Christi
1996
Corpus Christi is created as an undergraduate Catholic College, offering a two-year undergraduate program. Under the leadership of Vancouver’s Archbishop Adam Exner, OMI, the College is associated with Saint Mark’s College, a Roman Catholic theological college affiliated to the University of British Columbia and founded in 1956 by the Congregation of St. Basil.
1999
14 students enrol and start classes at the Corpus Christi campus, located at Saint Mark’s College, just steps from UBC.
2000
Corpus Christi College receives program approval from the University Presidents' Council, thereby becoming an institutional member of the BC Transfer System.
April 2001
Corpus Christi receives full accreditation from BC's Private Post-Secondary Education Commission (PPSEC). Students are therefore eligible for student loans through the StudentAid BC Program.
May 2011
The province’s Minister of Advanced Education confers on Corpus Christi the ability to grant a two-year Associate of Arts degree. This is a major step in fulfilling the College's long-term goal of granting accredited and recognized degrees as a stand-alone Catholic Liberal Arts College in the province. This same year, Corpus Christi is also granted membership status in the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities of Canada (ACCUC), a group representing Canada's leading Catholic institutions of higher education.
