17th Annual Fundraising Breakfast

Funds raised provide support for student scholarship and financial assistance

The importance of Catholic higher education, which receives no government funding whatsoever while striving to meet our young people “where they are” on the journeys that are life and faith, is perhaps more important to the future of the church than it has ever been. This has been continuously stressed by Pope Francis, who encourages us to constantly be engaged in a spirit of encounter and dialogue, with each other, and with the world.

Graydon Nicholas is an attorney, judge, and politician who served as the appointed 30th Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick (2009–2014). Born on the Tobique Reserve in New Brunswick, he is a member of the Maliseet First Nation. Graydon Nicholas is the rst Aboriginal person to receive a law degree in Atlantic Canada, the first to be made a judge and the first to be named Lieutenant Governor.

A graduate of St. Francis Xavier University and the current Chair of the Native Studies at program at St. Thomas University, he is deeply committed to advancing the importance of Aboriginal Christian life at the University, a message that resonates so clearly with the Catholic Colleges at UBC.
